Let’s Clear the Air: Learn more about the midstream’s consumer education campaign

The predominant energy and climate narratives emphasize energy transition — a rapid replacement of fuel sources such as natural gas with renewable sources like wind and solar. This narrative has power despite overlooking a number of technical, logistical, and practical details.

Led by the GPA Midstream Communications Committee, the award-winning Let’s Clear the Air campaign is an initiative aimed at adding the midstream’s perspective to the conversation about energy. With a friendly and factual tone, Let’s Clear the Air educates consumers about the realities and complexities of producing the reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy needed to meet ever-increasing demand while emphasizing the value of the midstream.

Priorities for 2024-25 include working to ensure a positive public image of midstream to help the industry expand infrastructure. The campaign is initially targeting 25 to 45-year-olds in the politically moderate “moveable middle” in four states.

Join us at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23 at the GPA Midstream Convention to learn about the campaign’s 2024-25 activities and plans. You’ll get a tour of the new campaign page, a look at the new ads that went live in mid-August and preliminary results from this year’s campaign. You’ll hear directly from the team leading the day-to-day work, including GPA Midstream Vice President of Marketing and Communications Kevin Broom, and Stephanie Keogh and Dustin Smith from agency partner Hahn.

“The campaign is designed to trigger curiosity, provide the truth about the realities of producing energy, and raise awareness of the complexities and tradeoffs inherent in meeting rising energy demand and realistic climate goals,” Broom said. “Many people don’t know how energy is made, the role of the midstream industry, or how fundamental oil and gas are to everyday life. Let’s Clear the Air is filling that knowledge gap with the perspective and experience of the midstream industry.”
