GPA Midstream released the following statement regarding the U.S. House of Representatives passage of a resolution to block the EPA's costly methane emissions fee:
“GPA Midstream applauds the House of Representatives for passing a congressional disapproval resolution of the methane emissions fee on oil and natural gas facilities. We are grateful for August Pfluger's (TX-11) leadership in introducing this resolution that would use the Congressional Review Act to block the Waste Emissions Charge (WEC), which was finalized by President Biden’s US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The WEC imposes an unnecessary and costly tax on the American people through GPA Midstream members and their operations. Midstream operations are critical to the supply chain, providing affordable, reliable, and cleaner energy to heat and power American homes and businesses.
With or without the WEC, GPA Midstream members are committed to proactively stopping leaks. In fact, US methane emissions dropped 19% from 1990-2022, before the Waste Emissions Charge was passed.”
