Method for the Underground Storage of Natural Gas Liquids (Retired)

Retired GPA 8175

This publication pertains to the storage of natural gas liquids in underground caverns, either washed or mined. General engineering considerations deemed necessary for the design and construction of underground storage systems are set forth. The designer is cautioned that this is not a design handbook and does not do away with the need for competent engineering judgement. Geological formations very widely such that good engineering practice may dictate certain modifications to provisions presented herein. This publication is intended to apply to new storage chamber design and construction. Statements made herein should not be construed to mean that storage chambers now in use, which do not meet all the provisions of this Standard, are unsatisfactory for storage of natural gas liquids. The operating and safety experience of older underground storage systems should be considered proof of design adequacy.
